NASA on January 16 declared Insight ‘mole’ defunct after it failed to burrow deep enough into the Red Planet to take its temperature. The lander arrived on the Martian surface in November 2018 and was declared dead only two years into the 16-inch (40 centimetres) heat probe after it couldn’t dig 6 feet into the Martian crust to detect the temperature of the mars dust. ....

NASA has declared the Mars digger dead after failing to burrow deep into the red planet to take its temperature.
Scientists in Germany spent two years trying to get their heat probe, dubbed the mole, to drill into the Martian crust. But the 16-inch-long (40-centimetre) device that is part of NASA’s InSight lander couldn’t gain enough friction in the red dirt. It was supposed to bury 16 feet (5 metres) into Mars, but only drilled down a couple of feet (about a half metre). ....

A digger that was sent to rescue a truck on a beach got stuck in the sand and eventually submerged when the tide came in.
According to reports, rescuers took a digger to a beach in Somerset after a truck had become stranded in the sand. However, the rescue mission didn t end up well as the digger got stuck in the sinking sand.
Although the truck was moved out of the sand hold, attempts to save the digger were called off. ....
